About Cathy Rodwell MEd CHT HH Dip (A.Th)
Cathy Rodwell is a multidisciplinary artist, art therapist, and counsellor based on Bribie Island, Queensland. Her practice integrates visual arts with wellbeing, drawing on over a decade of experience in education, counselling, and therapeutic facilitation. Growing up on a rural property instilled an abiding love of “all things alive.” The quiet beauty of native landscapes, animals, gardens, and shifting light directly inspires her subjects. She captures the living world with vivid colour and tactile impasto to bring subjects vividly to life. Cathy has won art prizes in local community shows and professionally gained recognition when her drawings were included in the Griffith University textbook, in 2003.
With qualifications including an MEd, CHT, and Higher Diploma in Art Therapy, Cathy spent years using creativity for self-expression and healing. This background shapes her philosophy: “Art holds inspiration, mood, and beauty in a single moment.” Her paintings feel like gentle invitations to pause—serene, uplifting portals that slow the viewer down and spark joy or introspection, whether through the simplicity of a child at play, the natural beauty of a forest waterfall or a fairy’s ethereal glow. Cathy explores themes of emotional expression, nature, and human connection. Her work is grounded in the belief that creativity is a powerful tool for healing, self-awareness, and transformation.
Cathy continues formal studies at the Milan Art Institute, building on university classes and workshops with local and international artists. This refines her command of layered glazes, luminous depth, and mixed-media experimentation (oil, acrylic, graphite, spray, and collage). The result is the rich atmospheric glow and tactile richness seen across her portfolio. Cathy has exhibited in galleries and for many years specialised in commissions for portraits of people and pets. She also has experience in book illustration. Earlier this year Cathy was part of a group exhibition “Exuvia”, and is currently holding a solo exhibition for which she was awarded a 2026 Flying Arts Regional Arts Grant for her project titled “Letting Colours Speak,“ an Exhibition with Community Painting Workshops.
